Advertising Policy

Last updated

This page explains how advertising works on StackVerdictLab, who serves the ads, what data is involved and how you can limit it. It sits alongside the Affiliate Disclosure, which covers commission links, and the Privacy Policy.

How the site is funded

StackVerdictLab is free to read. It is paid for by two things:

  1. Display ads served by Google AdSense.
  2. Affiliate commissions from links marked as affiliate links.

Neither one affects what we write. Our recommendations follow the evidence in each guide, and a company cannot buy a better ranking, a higher score or a softer review.

Google AdSense

We use Google AdSense to show ads. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on a visitor's earlier visits to this site and to other sites on the internet. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to StackVerdictLab and other sites.

You can control this in several ways:

  • Turn off personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings.
  • Opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
  • Read how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
  • Block or clear advertising cookies in your browser settings.
  • Change your cookie choices on this site at any time using Cookie settings in the footer.

Where the law requires consent before ads use cookies or personal data, for example for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, ads are shown according to the choices you make in the consent message. Visitors in US states with privacy laws can opt out of the sale or sharing of personal data and of targeted advertising, as described in the Privacy Policy.

If you decline personalization, you will still see ads. They will simply be less relevant to your interests.

What the ads look like

  • Ads are labeled Advertisement and are placed apart from article text, so they are not mistaken for our recommendations.
  • Ad boxes have a reserved size so the page does not jump while they load.
  • Ads are served by Google. We do not choose individual advertisers and cannot promise which ads appear.
  • An ad for a product is not an endorsement of it. A product we do recommend is recommended in the article, with our reasons.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell advertising space inside articles or sell positive reviews.
  • We do not ask you to click ads, and we do not offer anything in return for clicking them. Please click an ad only if you are genuinely interested in what it offers. Clicking to "support the site" counts as invalid activity under Google's rules.
  • We do not place ads on pages with little or no content, or on error and redirect pages.
  • We do not use deceptive layouts that make ads look like site navigation or download buttons.

We do not publish paid sponsored articles at the moment. If we do, the article will be labeled Sponsored at the top, and the sponsor will not approve conclusions or ratings.

Reporting a problem with an ad

If you see an ad that is offensive, misleading, broken or unsuitable for the page, tell us at office@quaventotechnologies.com with the page address and a screenshot if you can. You can also report an ad to Google using the "Ad settings" or "Report this ad" controls on the ad itself.

Changes to this policy

When advertising on the site changes, for example a new ad provider is added, this page and the Privacy Policy are updated first, and the date at the top changes.
