The full address of the page you want visitors to reach.
The platform or referrer where the link is placed.

The promo name, product launch, or monthly theme.
Used for A/B testing different links pointing to the same page.
Typically used to identify the target keyword for paid search ads.
What this tool does and who it is for
A UTM link adds tracking parameters to a normal URL so Google Analytics can tell which campaign sent a visit. Enter your destination page, source, medium and campaign, add optional content and term values, and the tool returns the finished link to copy.
Five channel presets fill in the usual values for an email newsletter, a Google CPC ad, LinkedIn, Twitter or X, and a Facebook ad. Everything you type is lowercased, trimmed, and has spaces swapped for underscores, so your reports do not split into Email and email.
If you leave the protocol off, https:// is added. The tool never contacts the destination, so check that the page actually loads before you send the link anywhere.
Official Formula / Technical Standard
Real-World Worked Scenario
Enter your target URL and parameters to produce standard-compliant markup and tracking directives.
When people use it
Newsletter links
Tag each link in a weekly email with the same source and medium and a campaign per issue, so you can compare issues in GA4.
A/B testing two buttons
Use utm_content to label header_cta and footer_cta versions of the same link and see which gets more clicks.
Paid social and search
Set source and medium to match your ad platform and put the keyword in utm_term for paid search campaigns.
Partner or influencer posts
Give each partner a unique campaign or content value so you can attribute signups without guessing.
Notes for US users
- Pick a naming rule and stick to it, for example all lowercase with underscores. GA4 treats values as case-sensitive, so Email and email count as two different mediums.
- Do not put personal data such as names or email addresses in UTM values. They end up in analytics, server logs and the browser's address bar, which creates privacy exposure under state laws such as the CCPA.
- Use utm_medium values that fit GA4's default channel grouping, such as email, cpc or social, or traffic may land in Unassigned.
- Do not add UTMs to internal links on your own site. They can overwrite the original traffic source for the session.
Limits and what to double-check
- •The tool does not check your naming against a team standard or detect duplicates. Keep a shared spreadsheet of values.
- •Reset Fields clears everything, including the destination, and values are not saved between visits.
- •Tagged URLs can get long and messy. Use a canonical tag on the destination page so search engines treat the clean URL as primary.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the UTM Builder work?▼
The UTM Builder runs 100% inside your web browser using modern client-side JavaScript. It performs calculations, conversions, and document processing locally on your device without sending any data to external servers.
Is this utm builder completely free to use?▼
Yes. This tool is completely free with no usage limits, no subscriptions, and no registration required.
Is my data private when using the UTM Builder?▼
Yes. Because all operations execute locally on your computer or phone, your inputs, documents, and data never leave your browser.
Do UTM parameters hurt SEO?▼
They can create duplicate-looking URLs, but a canonical tag pointing to the clean page handles that. Most links with UTMs are in emails and ads, not crawled pages. Avoid putting tagged URLs in your own navigation or sitemap. If duplicate tagged pages appear in Search Console, check that the canonical points to the clean address.
Which UTM fields are required?▼
Google Analytics expects source, medium and campaign for a useful report. Content and term are optional extras for telling similar links apart or for tracking paid keywords. This tool sets whichever fields you fill in and skips empty ones. Many teams also add content for link placement, which costs nothing and makes later comparisons far easier.
Can I shorten a UTM link?▼
Yes, a link shortener or your own redirect keeps the parameters intact and makes them easier to share. Test the shortened link before you publish and confirm the campaign appears in GA4's real-time or acquisition reports. Check that the shortener does not drop the query string, and keep a record of which short link maps where.
Why isn't my campaign showing up in GA4?▼
Check the spelling of the parameters, confirm the page has the GA4 tag, and wait; some reports lag by a day. Redirects that strip the query string are a common culprit. Open your tagged link and look at the final address in the browser.
