Keyword Density, Frequency & N-Gram Analyzer
Detect keyword stuffing, analyze 1-word, 2-word, and 3-word phrase distribution, and filter conversational stop-words.
What this tool does and who it is for
Paste an article into this tool and it counts how often words and short phrases repeat. You can switch between single words, two-word phrases and three-word phrases, and turn stop-word filtering on or off. The result is the top 12 entries with counts and percentages.
Density here is the phrase count divided by the number of phrases examined. A phrase between 1 and 3 percent is marked optimal, and one above 3 percent that appears more than twice is flagged for stuffing. Those marks are the tool's own rules of thumb.
Use it as an editing aid. It is good at revealing a word you lean on too much. It cannot tell you whether the page answers the search.
Official Formula / Technical Standard
Real-World Worked Scenario
Enter your target URL and parameters to produce standard-compliant markup and tracking directives.
When people use it
Catching repetition in a draft
Run a finished post through the two-word view and see which phrase shows up in every paragraph. Then vary the wording or cut it.
Checking an older page for stuffing
Review a service page written years ago and see whether one location phrase is repeated unnaturally.
Comparing a draft with a competitor
Paste a competitor's public text next to yours to see which topics it covers that you left out. Use it to spot gaps, never to copy.
Notes for US users
- Google has no target keyword density and has said that repeating a term does not help. Write naturally for US readers and use synonyms the way people actually speak.
- Local pages benefit from clear mentions of the city and state, but repeating them in every sentence reads as spam.
- The built-in stop word list is English only.
Limits and what to double-check
- •Words are lowercased and anything that is not a letter or number becomes a space, so hyphenated terms, apostrophes and numbers with punctuation split apart. Words of one letter are dropped.
- •It does not stem words, so run and running count separately, and it ignores synonyms and meaning.
- •The optimal and warning bands are arbitrary guides, not search engine thresholds.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Keyword Density Checker work?▼
The Keyword Density Checker runs 100% inside your web browser using modern client-side JavaScript. It performs calculations, conversions, and document processing locally on your device without sending any data to external servers.
Is this keyword density checker completely free to use?▼
Yes. This tool is completely free with no usage limits, no subscriptions, and no registration required.
Is my data private when using the Keyword Density Checker?▼
Yes. Because all operations execute locally on your computer or phone, your inputs, documents, and data never leave your browser.
What is a good keyword density for SEO?▼
There is no official number. Google does not look for a set percentage, and chasing one tends to make writing stilted. Cover the topic fully, use the main term where it fits and let related words appear naturally. Use this tool only to catch obvious overuse.
Why does filtering stop words matter?▼
Without it, words like the, and and of dominate the list and bury the terms that carry meaning. Turning the filter on removes common English function words so the phrases left are the ones describing your topic. Switch the filter off to see raw counts, which can be useful when you want to check sentence rhythm.
Does the tool count words in headings and alt text?▼
Only what you paste. If you want headings or image descriptions included, copy that text into the box. It does not read a live URL, so what you see reflects exactly the text you provide. This also means a live page is only measured accurately if you paste its full visible body copy.
Is keyword stuffing penalized?▼
Google's spam policies list keyword stuffing as a violation, meaning repetition added to manipulate rankings rather than help readers. Natural use of a phrase is fine. If a paragraph sounds odd when read aloud, it has probably crossed the line.
