Currency Converter Online (100% Free & Private)
Convert between about 30 currencies using live European Central Bank reference rates.
Currency Converter
Reference exchange rates from the European Central Bank, via Frankfurter.
Rates are reference rates published once per working day, not the rate a bank, card issuer or exchange counter will give you. Those add a markup or fees. Do not use this for invoices, accounting or tax records.
Privacy: this page contacts api.frankfurter.dev to download the current rate table. The amount you type is never sent anywhere; the conversion math runs in your browser.

What this tool does and who it is for
Type an amount, choose the currencies you are converting from and to, and the tool shows the converted value and the rate in both directions. About thirty major currencies are available, including the US dollar, euro, pound, Canadian dollar, Japanese yen and Mexican peso.
Rates come live from Frankfurter, a free service that republishes European Central Bank reference rates. The rate date is shown with every result. Reference rates are updated once per working day, so they are a good benchmark but not a real-time market quote.
If the rates cannot be loaded, for example when you are offline, the tool tells you so and lets you type a rate you looked up yourself. It never substitutes hidden numbers.
Official Formula / Technical Standard
Real-World Worked Scenario
Entering baseline parameters produces an instant, real-time mathematical breakdown with side-by-side comparative totals.
When people use it
Ballparking a trip budget
Convert a hotel or meal price to dollars to see roughly whether it fits your plan.
Checking a foreign price online
Estimate a price listed in euros or pounds before checkout.
Comparing a quote with the benchmark
Compare what a bank or card is offering with the reference rate to see how large the markup is.
Converting with your own rate
If you are offline or have a negotiated rate, enter it manually and use the same conversion.
Notes for US users
- Banks and card networks add their own margin, and many US cards charge a foreign transaction fee, so what you pay will differ from a reference rate.
- Airport exchange counters and dynamic currency conversion at checkout often have poor rates. Paying in the local currency is usually better.
- If you send money abroad or receive a foreign invoice for business, the rate on the settlement date matters for your records and possibly for taxes.
Limits and what to double-check
- •The rates are ECB reference rates, published once per working day. They are not the rate a bank, card issuer or exchange counter will give you.
- •Only currencies the ECB publishes are included, and there is no historical chart.
- •Fees, spreads and taxes are not included. Do not use the result for invoices, accounting or transactions.
- •The page needs a working internet connection to load rates. The last successful result is kept in memory until you close the page.
Expert Best Practices & Common Pitfalls
Recommended Best Practices
- •Verify input values against your latest financial statements or tax documents.
- •Model best-case, average-case, and conservative scenarios to understand financial variability.
- •Review long-term interest costs and compounding schedules before committing to large loans.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- •Using outdated tax rates or interest assumptions from previous calendar years.
- •Forgetting secondary expenses like closing fees, maintenance, or local taxes.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Currency Converter work?▼
The Currency Converter runs 100% inside your web browser using modern client-side JavaScript. It performs calculations, conversions, and document processing locally on your device without sending any data to external servers.
Is this currency converter completely free to use?▼
Yes. This tool is completely free with no usage limits, no subscriptions, and no registration required.
Is my data private when using the Currency Converter?▼
Yes. Because all operations execute locally on your computer or phone, your inputs, documents, and data never leave your browser.
Are these exchange rates live?▼
They are the latest reference rates from the European Central Bank, fetched when you open the page, and the date is displayed. They update once per working day, so they are not tick-by-tick market rates.
Does the tool send my amounts anywhere?▼
No. The page contacts api.frankfurter.dev to download the rate table, but the amount you type is never sent. The math happens in your browser.
Why is my bank's rate worse than the one shown?▼
Banks and card issuers add a spread, and some also charge a foreign transaction fee. The reference rate is close to the mid-market rate, which is not what a retail customer usually receives.
What happens if I am offline?▼
The tool shows a message and lets you enter your own rate for the pair you chose. If an earlier fetch succeeded in the same session, that result stays available with its date.
Should I pay in dollars or the local currency when traveling?▼
Generally, pay in the local currency. When a terminal offers to charge you in dollars, that is dynamic currency conversion, and the rate is usually unfavorable.
