Color Picker, Converter and Contrast Checker
Convert between HEX, RGB, HSL and CMYK, and check WCAG contrast for text.
WCAG contrast checker
Large sample text
Normal sample text: the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
Contrast uses the WCAG 2.x formula on sRGB colors. "Large text" means at least 24 px, or 18.66 px and bold. Transparency (alpha) is ignored: enter the final blended colors. CMYK here is the simple math conversion from RGB with no ICC profile, so it will not match a printer's color-managed output. Ask your print shop for their CMYK values when color accuracy matters. Passing contrast is one part of accessibility, not all of it.
What this tool does and who it is for
Enter a color as HEX (3, 4, 6 or 8 digits), rgb(), hsl() or a common color name, or use the native color picker, and get it back as HEX, RGB, HSL and CMYK with copy buttons. A second section checks WCAG contrast between a text color and a background color.
The contrast checker shows the ratio and a pass or fail for AA and AAA, for normal and large text, plus the 3:1 level for interface components, with a live sample.
CMYK is a simple mathematical conversion with no color profile, so treat it as an approximation. Everything runs in your browser.
Official Formula / Technical Standard
Real-World Worked Scenario
Paste your input code or payload to inspect, format, validate, or convert data with instant syntax verification.
When people use it
Converting a brand color between formats
Paste a hex code from a style guide and copy the rgb() or hsl() version for CSS.
Checking accessibility of a design
Test your text and background colors against WCAG AA before launch.
Finding a readable text color
Swap or tweak colors until the ratio passes, with a preview of large and normal text.
Getting rough CMYK numbers
Use the CMYK values as a starting point for print briefs, then confirm with your printer.
Notes for US users
- Accessibility lawsuits and procurement rules in the US (ADA-related claims, Section 508 for federal work) commonly reference WCAG 2.x AA, which needs 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text.
- Large text means at least 24 px, or 18.66 px if bold.
- Print shops in the US usually work from their own CMYK profile. Ask for their color specs rather than relying on a screen conversion.
Limits and what to double-check
- •CMYK here uses the simple formula from RGB with no ICC profile, so it will not match what a press produces and can look different from your screen.
- •Transparency (alpha) is ignored. Enter the final blended color for contrast tests.
- •WCAG ratios are a guideline for text and UI parts. They do not capture everything about readability, such as font weight, spacing or color-vision differences.
Expert Best Practices & Common Pitfalls
Recommended Best Practices
- •Validate data schemas against official specification standards before production deployment.
- •Keep sensitive API keys and production credentials out of external browser clipboards.
- •Use automated formatters to maintain clean code consistency across development teams.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- •Pasting production API keys or customer data into unsecured cloud utility sites.
- •Ignoring syntax error diagnostics and warnings highlighted by parsers.
- •Assuming encoded data like Base64 provides cryptographic security.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Color Picker and Converter work?▼
The Color Picker and Converter runs 100% inside your web browser using modern client-side JavaScript. It performs calculations, conversions, and document processing locally on your device without sending any data to external servers.
Is this color picker and converter completely free to use?▼
Yes. This tool is completely free with no usage limits, no subscriptions, and no registration required.
Is my data private when using the Color Picker and Converter?▼
Yes. Because all operations execute locally on your computer or phone, your inputs, documents, and data never leave your browser.
What color formats can I type?▼
HEX such as #1a73e8, #fff, 1a73e8 or #1a73e880, rgb(26, 115, 232) or rgb(10% 20% 30%), hsl(217, 80%, 51%), a plain list like 26 115 232, or a name such as orange. Alpha values are accepted but ignored.
What contrast ratio do I need?▼
WCAG AA asks for at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text and interface components. AAA asks for 7:1 for normal text and 4.5:1 for large text.
Why isn't the ratio rounded up?▼
A ratio that is 4.49 does not meet 4.5. The tool rounds down to two decimals so it never shows a pass that should be a fail.
Is the CMYK accurate for printing?▼
Only roughly. Real print color depends on paper, ink and the printer's profile. Use the numbers as a starting point and ask your printer for proofs.
Does the native picker work everywhere?▼
It works in current browsers. You can always type the value instead.
