Blur Face & Sensitive Data Censor Tool
Upload a photo and drag over faces to blur
What this tool does and who it is for
Drag a box over any part of your photo and it gets blurred, pixelated or blacked out. There is no automatic face detection. You mark each area yourself, choose the mode and strength, and download the image. It works for faces, license plates, addresses, and anything else you want hidden.
Blackout is the only mode that fully removes the underlying pixels in the area. Blur and pixelate hide detail but are not as strict, especially at low strength. If something truly must not be recoverable, use blackout.
Draw boxes a little larger than the thing you are hiding, and check the result at full size before posting.
Official Formula / Technical Standard
Real-World Worked Scenario
Drawing a 120×120 pixel box over a face with 20px pixelation replaces 14,400 individual facial pixels with 36 uniform color blocks, rendering facial recognition impossible.

Hiding license plates
Cover plates and house numbers in car-sale or street photos.

Notes for US users
- US privacy expectations vary by state and setting. For photos of minors, get parental permission or blur them.
- When selling a car online, hiding plates and VIN numbers is common practice to limit scams.
- For legal records, medical documents and financial statements, follow the receiving party's rules. A blurred image may not count as proper redaction.
Limits and what to double-check
- •No automatic face detection. You must draw every box yourself.
- •Light blur and pixelation can sometimes be partly reversed or guessed. Use blackout for sensitive content.
- •Re-saving an image does not remove the original from your device. Delete the unblurred version if it must not be shared.
Expert Best Practices & Common Pitfalls
Recommended Best Practices
- •Use 'Pixelate Mosaic' or 'Black Redact' for sensitive identification numbers, as heavy Gaussian blur can sometimes be mathematically reversed.
- •Always extend the blur box slightly beyond the hairline and chin to prevent ear/jawline biometric matching.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- •Setting blur intensity too low (below 10px), which may leave recognizable facial features.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this face blur tool safe for private documents?▼
Yes! Processing happens entirely inside your browser. No files are transmitted to any server.
Can I blur multiple faces on the same picture?▼
Yes. Simply click and drag a separate box over as many faces as you need. You can undo individual zones anytime.
Is this safe for private documents?▼
Blackout removes the pixels in the box and is the safest option here. Blur and pixelate are fine for casual privacy but can be weaker at low strength. For legal, medical or financial documents, use blackout, check the output, and follow the recipient's redaction rules.
Does it find faces automatically?▼
No. The tool does not detect faces. You drag a rectangle over each area to hide, one at a time, and pick blur, pixelate or blackout. That makes it flexible for plates, text and logos too, but you must check every part of the photo yourself.
Can I blur multiple faces on the same picture?▼
Yes. Each box you draw is added as its own area, and they all apply together. If you make a mistake, clear the areas and start again. Do a final check at full zoom to confirm nothing was missed.
How strong should the blur be?▼
Higher is better when privacy matters. A mild blur may leave faces recognizable, especially in high-resolution photos. If you can still tell who it is at full size, increase the strength, or switch to blackout.
