Interactive Duplicate Lines Remover & Sorter

Cleaned (5 unique • removed 2):

What this tool does and who it is for

Drop a list in, one item per line, and get back a version with repeats removed. By default it ignores case and sorts the result A to Z, and you can turn either behavior off. It is a fast fix for email lists, keyword lists, URLs, SKUs and log excerpts.

Each line is trimmed of leading and trailing spaces and blank lines are discarded before comparison. The first time a line appears it is kept, and later copies are dropped, and the page shows how many lines were removed.

Sorting is on when the page loads. If your order matters, such as a ranked list or a sequence of steps, switch Sort Alphabetically off before you copy.

Official Formula / Technical Standard

Text processing engine based on Unicode standard tokenization and typographic conventions.

Real-World Worked Scenario

Enter or paste your text to perform instant transformations, count characters, and analyze typographic properties.

When people use it

Cleaning an email or contact list

Merged mailing lists often hold the same address twice, sometimes in different capitalization. Case-insensitive mode catches those. For compliance with CAN-SPAM unsubscribe handling, keep your master suppression list separate.

Deduplicating keywords for SEO or ads

Combining keyword exports from several tools leaves overlaps. Paste everything in, dedupe, and you have a single list to import into a spreadsheet or ad account.

Tidying URL lists before a redirect map

Before building redirects or a crawl list, remove repeated URLs. Switch on case sensitivity if your paths are case-sensitive on the server.

Shrinking log or ID lists

Pull unique order numbers, error messages or user IDs from a pasted chunk of text, then copy the cleaned list into a spreadsheet.

Notes for US users

  • Email addresses are generally treated as case-insensitive in practice, so leave Case Sensitive off for mailing lists. Actual mail systems can vary, so keep the original data too.
  • If you are cleaning customer data that includes personal information, process it on a device you control and follow your company's data handling rules.
  • Spreadsheet exports can include leading apostrophes, quotes or trailing commas. Those are part of the line and will prevent matches, so strip them first.

Limits and what to double-check

  • •It compares whole lines only. It will not catch near-duplicates such as jon@example.com and john@example.com, or the same address with a different tracking parameter.
  • •Blank lines are always removed, and each kept line loses its leading and trailing spaces, so indentation is not preserved.
  • •Sorting uses the browser's locale comparison. Numbers sort as text, so 10 can come before 2.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Remove Duplicate Lines work?▼

The Remove Duplicate Lines runs 100% inside your web browser using modern client-side JavaScript. It performs calculations, conversions, and document processing locally on your device without sending any data to external servers.

Is this remove duplicate lines completely free to use?▼

Yes. This tool is completely free with no usage limits, no subscriptions, and no registration required.

Is my data private when using the Remove Duplicate Lines?▼

Yes. Because all operations execute locally on your computer or phone, your inputs, documents, and data never leave your browser.

Which copy of a duplicate is kept?▼

The first one. With sorting off, the list keeps your original order and drops later repeats. With sorting on, kept lines are alphabetized afterward. If two lines differ only by capitalization and case-insensitive mode is on, the first spelling you pasted is the one you get back.

Why is there a 'removed' count that seems off?▼

The count compares non-empty lines before and after. Blank lines are discarded but not counted as removed duplicates. So if you paste 10 lines, two blank and two repeated, the page reports two removed duplicates, and the output has six lines.

Can I dedupe a column from Excel or Google Sheets?▼

Yes. Copy the column, paste it here, clean it, then paste it back. Each cell becomes a line. Cells that contain line breaks will be split into several lines, so use this for single-line cells. When you paste the cleaned list back, check that the number of rows matches what you expect before you overwrite the original column.

Does it work for very large lists?▼

It processes everything in your browser, so very large lists of many thousands of lines work on a typical computer, but a huge paste can make the page slow. For millions of rows, use a spreadsheet pivot, a database or a command-line tool.

How do I keep my original order?▼

Uncheck Sort Alphabetically. The tool will then keep the first occurrence of each line in the sequence you pasted. That is the right choice for ranked lists, step-by-step instructions and anything where position carries meaning. Leave Case Sensitive off if you want Apple and apple treated as the same entry, or turn it on if capitalization matters in your data.
