PDF Summarizer: Extractive Key Sentences and Keywords
Pull the key sentences and top keywords out of a text-based PDF. It selects existing sentences; it does not rewrite them.
PDF Extractive Summary
Picks the most representative sentences already in your document. No AI model, no rewriting.
Reports, articles, papers, long emails saved as PDF
What this tool does and who it is for
This tool produces an extractive summary: it picks the sentences that best represent a text-based PDF and shows them in their original order. It scores sentences by how often their meaningful words appear in the document, boosts the opening sentences, and skips near-duplicates.
There is no language model. It does not rewrite, interpret or understand the text, only selects sentences that are already there. You choose 3, 5, 8 or 12 sentences and also get the most frequent keywords with their counts.
Scanned PDFs need OCR first. Nothing is uploaded; all of it runs in your browser.

Notes for US users
- For contracts, leases and benefits documents, an extract can miss exceptions and fine print. Read the sections on fees, deadlines and termination yourself.
- Do not treat the output as advice. It is a selection of sentences, not an analysis.
- Because nothing leaves your browser, it is a reasonable first pass for private documents, but your own organization's rules still apply.
Limits and what to double-check
- •It works on running prose. Tables, forms, slide decks and lists produce poor or empty results.
- •Sentences are chosen by word frequency, so an important sentence with rare words can be missed, and a repetitive one can be picked.
- •English stopwords only. Other languages will work badly.
Expert Best Practices & Common Pitfalls
Recommended Best Practices
- •Focus on the 'Action Items' section to quickly delegate tasks after receiving reports.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- •Uploading image-only scanned PDFs without prior OCR extraction.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I summarize financial reports?▼
Yes! It specifically extracts core figures, milestones, and strategic targets.
Is this AI?▼
No. It is a classic statistical method called extractive summarization. It counts words, scores sentences and picks the top ones. It does not understand the document.
Why are the sentences in original order?▼
Keeping document order makes the extract easier to read and avoids implying a ranking. Each sentence appears exactly as written in the PDF.
Can I use it on a scanned PDF?▼
Run the PDF to Text (OCR) tool first. A scan has no text for the summarizer to read.
How accurate is it?▼
It cannot be accurate in the sense of understanding. It reliably shows sentences that carry the document's most repeated terms. Verify anything important in the source.
Is my file uploaded?▼
No. Text is extracted and scored in your browser.
