Convert PDF to Markdown Online: Clean GitHub-Flavored .md Free
Convert PDF documents, whitepapers, and manuals into clean, structured Markdown (.md) with headings and code blocks.
PDF to Markdown
Extracts the real text of your PDF and guesses structure from it. Tables, images and columns are not converted.
The file stays in this browser tab.
What this tool does and who it is for
PDF to Markdown extracts the real text from your PDF and turns it into Markdown using simple rules. Larger text becomes headings, lines that start with a dash, bullet or number become list items, and paragraphs are split where the spacing grows.
These are heuristics, so check the result. Bold, italic, tables, links, images and multi-column order are not detected. The output box is editable, with copy and .md download.
Scanned PDFs have no text layer and need OCR first. Nothing is uploaded.

Notes for US users
- Keep the original PDF for legal or tax documents. Markdown is for reading and editing only.
- GitHub renders standard Markdown, but heading levels guessed here may need adjusting.
- Avoid committing sensitive personal data to a public repository.
Limits and what to double-check
- •Headings come from font size compared to the document's typical size, so some will be missed or over-detected.
- •Tables, bold, italics, links and images are not converted, and columns may be read straight across.
- •Scanned PDFs return no text. Use the OCR tool.
Expert Best Practices & Common Pitfalls

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the markdown compatible with GitHub and Obsidian?▼
Yes! It outputs standard GitHub-flavored Markdown (.md) supported by all modern editors.
How does it detect headings?▼
It compares each line's font size to the typical size in the document. Short lines that are noticeably larger become #, ## or ### headings. It cannot see bold or styles, so check them.
Does it handle tables?▼
No. Table cells come out as lines of text. Rebuild tables by hand.
Can I edit before downloading?▼
Yes. The text box is editable, and Copy and Download use what is in the box.
Why did nothing come out?▼
Your PDF is probably scanned. Use PDF to Text OCR instead.
Is it uploaded anywhere?▼
No. Extraction happens in your browser.
