Convert PDF to Excel Online: Extract Tables to CSV & XLSX Free
Pull tables out of text-based PDFs into editable CSV and Excel files, with an adjustable column gap.
PDF to Excel / CSV
Reads the text positions in a PDF, rebuilds rows and columns, and exports a real .xlsx or CSV.
Text-based PDFs only (not scans)
What this tool does and who it is for
Choose a text-based PDF and this tool rebuilds its tables from the position of every piece of text: lines are grouped into rows by vertical position and cells into columns by horizontal alignment. You get a preview, a CSV file, and a real .xlsx workbook.
It works best on PDFs exported from software, such as statements, invoices and reports, where text is selectable. A column-gap slider lets you tune how aggressively neighboring words are split into separate columns.
Scanned PDFs have no text to read. Run them through the PDF to Text (OCR) tool first. Nothing is uploaded; extraction happens in your browser.
Official Formula / Technical Standard
Real-World Worked Scenario
An invoice PDF with 10 line items extracts into a clean 4-column CSV ready for accounting reconciliation.
When people use it
Invoices and price lists
Pull line items and prices into a sheet you can sort and total.
Report tables
Move a table out of a PDF report so you can chart it or check the math.
Multi-page statements
Stack all pages into one sheet, or export one page at a time.
Notes for US users
- Bank and brokerage sites often offer CSV or OFX downloads, which are cleaner than parsing a PDF. Use those when they exist.
- Plain numbers become numeric cells. Amounts like $6,000.00 and percentages stay as text, so convert them in Excel before summing.
- For tax or bookkeeping use, reconcile totals against the original document.
Limits and what to double-check
- •Layout detection is a best guess. Merged cells, wrapped multi-line cells and tables without clear column alignment can land in the wrong column, so adjust the slider and verify.
- •Only text-based PDFs work. Images of tables need OCR first, and the OCR tool outputs plain text without position data.
- •Only the text is exported: no formulas, cell formatting, or images.
Expert Best Practices & Common Pitfalls
Recommended Best Practices
- •Check column alignment in the preview before importing into financial software.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- •Extracting scanned image-only PDFs without running OCR first.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this work with bank statements?▼
Yes! It is specifically engineered to parse financial line items, quantities, and totals.
Does this read the numbers in my PDF?▼
Yes. It reads the text and its coordinates directly from the PDF and arranges them into rows and columns. What you see in the preview is what goes into the CSV and .xlsx files.
Why are my columns merged or split oddly?▼
Column detection relies on gaps between words. Lower the sensitivity slider to split more, raise it to keep nearby words together. PDFs with irregular spacing may still need manual cleanup in Excel.
Is the .xlsx a real Excel file?▼
Yes, it is a standard Office Open XML workbook that opens in Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice. It has a single sheet and no styling.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?▼
No. A scan is a picture with no text to extract. Run OCR first, then paste or import the result.
Is the file uploaded?▼
No. Parsing happens entirely in your browser.
