Word to PDF Online (100% Free & Private)
Free word to pdf that runs in your browser. No sign-up, no install.
Word to PDF Converter
Turn a .docx file, or text you paste, into a US Letter PDF. Text, basic formatting, simple tables and images are carried over.
.docx only (not .doc) • nothing is uploaded
Your document is read and converted on this device. No file is uploaded.
What this tool does and who it is for
Word to PDF reads a real .docx file in your browser and builds a PDF from it. It keeps the text, bold, italic and underline, headings, bullet and numbered lists, simple tables, page breaks and PNG or JPG images, laid out on US Letter pages with 1-inch margins. You can also paste plain text instead of uploading a file.
This is a rebuild of your document, not Word's own layout engine. Lines are re-wrapped with the standard PDF fonts (Helvetica or Times), so line and page breaks will not match Word exactly. Headers, footers, footnotes, text boxes, columns, shapes, tracked changes and custom fonts are not reproduced.
The file is read and converted on your device, and nothing is uploaded. Long documents flow onto as many pages as they need, so no text is dropped.
Official Formula / Technical Standard
Real-World Worked Scenario
Select your PDF documents, apply the desired operation, and save the updated file directly to your local storage.
When people use it
Send a draft as a PDF
Upload a letter or report written in Word and attach a PDF that looks the same on every phone and computer.
Quick PDF without opening Word
Handy on a Chromebook or a borrowed computer where Word is not installed, as long as the document is simple.
Plain notes into a PDF
Switch to paste mode, drop in meeting notes or a checklist, and download a clean multi-page PDF.
A text document with a few pictures
Handouts and simple reports with PNG or JPG images come through with the images scaled to fit the page.
Notes for US users
- US Letter (8.5 x 11 in) is the default page size, with 1-inch margins. Switch to A4 if you are sending the file outside North America.
- For resumes, contracts, lender paperwork and anything a court or employer will read closely, use Word's own File, Save As, PDF. It keeps your exact fonts and layout, which this tool cannot.
- The built-in PDF fonts cover standard English text, curly quotes and common accents. Emoji and non-Latin scripts are replaced with a question mark, and the tool tells you how many.
Limits and what to double-check
- •Only .docx files work. Old .doc files and password-protected documents must be re-saved as plain .docx in Word first.
- •Tables become simple bordered grids of plain text, so cell shading, bold inside cells and images inside cells are lost.
- •Floating pictures are placed in reading order instead of where they sat on the page, and only PNG and JPG images are embedded. Check page count and layout before sending.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Word to PDF work?▼
The Word to PDF runs 100% inside your web browser using modern client-side JavaScript. It performs calculations, conversions, and document processing locally on your device without sending any data to external servers.
Is this word to pdf completely free to use?▼
Yes. This tool is completely free with no usage limits, no subscriptions, and no registration required.
Is my data private when using the Word to PDF?▼
Yes. Because all operations execute locally on your computer or phone, your inputs, documents, and data never leave your browser.
Will it look exactly like my Word document?▼
No. The text, headings, lists, tables and images are all carried over, but the fonts are Helvetica or Times and line breaks are recalculated, so pages will not break in the same places. For an exact copy, use Save As PDF inside Word.
Why is part of my document missing?▼
Headers, footers, footnotes, text boxes, shapes and images in formats other than PNG or JPG are not reproduced. The result screen lists text boxes and skipped images when they are found. Everything in the main body text is placed, across as many pages as it needs.
Can I convert an old .doc file?▼
Not directly. Open it in Word, choose Save As, pick Word Document (.docx), then upload that copy. The same applies to files saved in Pages or Google Docs: download them as .docx first.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?▼
No. The .docx is unzipped and read by code running in your browser, and the PDF is built there too. The page makes no upload request. Close the tab afterward and delete the downloaded copy if the content is sensitive.
